ENZYMES 101

Enzymes are the catalysts of all of the body’s functions, enabling the creation of proteins, carbohydrates, and other essential ingredients needed to support a healthy life. The three main categories of enzymes are metabolic, digestive, and food. Metabolic enzymes speed up chemical reactions in the body, allowing your cells to produce energy and detox faster. Digestive enzymes break down food into the nutrients that your body needs. Food enzymes are just as they sound—enzymes that occur naturally in the foods we eat.

With such a wide variety of enzymes, it can be hard to differentiate them. Here are some of the key enzymes we use in our products, where they were discovered, and their benefits:

Enzyme Where it was discovered What it does
Bromelain Derived from pineapple Breaks down ingested proteins
Cellulase Fungus, bacteria, and protozoans Supports digestion of fiber
Papain Derived from papaya Hydrolyzes proteins into amino acids
Nattokinase Natto, a fermented soy dish Dissolves excess fibrin
Serrapeptase Used by silkworms Promotes healthy sinus activity and inflammatory responses

THE ORIGINS OF ENZYMES

There is a stark difference between where an enzyme was discovered and how it is later made. For example, serrapeptase is known as “the silkworm enzyme”, because it was originally discovered as being used by the worms to break down their silk cocoons. It was later found that the silkworms themselves were not producing the enzyme, but that a bacterium residing in the worm was responsible for the enzyme’s formation. With that said, the silkworm is not used at any stage of Serrétia’s manufacturing process. Instead, the bacteria are cultured and grown in a fermentation process.

As another example, nattokinase was first discovered in a fermented soy dish called natto. That is why many consumers assume that Nattovéna contains soy; however, soy is not found in the enzyme itself, as it is derived from bacteria (B subtilis).

HOW ARTHUR ANDREW MEDICAL FORMULATES ENZYMES

In order to understand the process behind our enzymes,it’s important to understand some of the many principles we stick to when formulating a product around an active ingredient. Our formulation principles result in a stronger product for our customers, with more scientifically proven results.

GUARANTEED STRENGTH AND POTENCY

The level of strength in our enzyme supplements is unmatched by other brands and is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible formula to our customers. For proof of this, look no further than the facts behind our products:

  • NATTOVÉNA provides more than 4,000 fibrinolytic units (FUs) per capsule—which is twice the potency of most other nattokinase products.
  • SERRÉTIA is one of the world’s strongest Serrapeptase supplements, powered by a minimum activity level of 250,000 serratiopeptidase (SPUs) per dose.
  • The powerful digestive enzymes in DEVIGEST, including bromelain and peptidase, were shown in multiple clinical studies to break down digestive irritants and aid in achieving optimal digestive health.

NO ANIMAL DERIVATIVES

Arthur Andrew Medical does not utilize any components or materials that are derived from an animal source, including the use of cellulose capsules to avoid animal gelatin capsules. This is one of the reasons why we do not incorporate the enzyme lumbrokinase, known as the "earthworm enzyme”, into any formula. Lumbrokinase is comprised of pulverized earthworms, which are definitely not vegan and a little stomach turning as well. Instead, we use vegan-friendly nattokinase, an enzyme that we feel is a superior in composition as well as efficacy in comparison to lumbrokinase.

The benefits of using non-animal sources include delivering a higher quality experience to our customers. For example, the blend of microbial and plant-based enzymes in Neprinol was shown to be 500% stronger in fibrinolytic activity than the leading animal-based enzyme formula, based on third party testing.
